African American Art History at a Glance
The African American Art History Project is a collaboration between the National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) and the Department of Visual Arts at Alabama State University. The goals of this project are to both celebrate and increase awareness of the immense contributions of African American artists to the history of art.
Thanks to the generous support of NAEF, a two-story foyer in Tullibody Fine Arts Center on ASU's campus is now home to a 30 ft. tall timeline featuring 72 African American artists whose lives and work span over four centuries. This timeline has also been made available on our website in order to share it with a broader community of artists and educators.
As one of the oldest HBCUs in the nation, Alabama State University, prides itself on its 154 year legacy, history of activism, and ongoing efforts to educate the talented young artists of tomorrow.
Please join us in celebrating African American Art History.
